Keep Your Focus

I cannot remember a time when there were as many distractions as there are today. One of the most difficultthings to do is to maintain your focus in the face of the multitude of issues and challenges that come to divert our attention from the important things we need to do. Hebrews 12:2 tells us: ‘Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from beginning to end.’ Keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus is important if we have to navigate the ups and downs of life as it is so easy to get discouraged by life’s challenges, difficult circumstances and people!

Broken focus is one of the major causes of serious accidents. I once read about the driver of an articulated vehicle who ran into a young family, all because he was using his mobile phone while driving. How tragic is that?

The devil would like us to remain in this constant state of distraction. Sometimes he uses situations, other times he will use people, but we must resist him and remain focussed. When Jesus asked Peter to walk on water, he lost his focus by looking at the wind which caused him to fear and to begin to sink. That earned him a rebuke from Jesus who said: ‘You of little faith, why did you doubt?’ (Matthew 15:31). All Peter needed to do was to fix his gaze on the one who had called him.

Has God called you to take a step of faith in an area today? Step out and resist the temptation to bedistracted by fear or worry, because when we step out in faith, our God steps in to give us all the help that we need.
