New Beginnings: Stepping forward With God

As families settle back into school routines, young people begin university, and many of us face new opportunities or challenges, this season reminds us that life is constantly moving. New beginnings can bring excitement and possibility, but they can also stir anxiety and uncertainty. As Christians, we are not called to face these transitions alone. God walks with us into every new chapter and we can respond in several ways:
1. Step forward with God
Whether it is a child starting a new class, a student leaving home for university, someone beginning a new job, or a family adjusting to a different season of life, change often takes us beyond our comfort zones. Yet throughout Scripture, we see God calling ordinary people to trust Him in unfamiliar places.
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." (Joshua 1:9)
2. Leave your anxieties with God
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God ... will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:6-7)
3. Recognise that what is within us often emerges during change
Periods of transition have a way of revealing what is inside us. When life is comfortable and predictable, we can remain unaware of both our weaknesses and our strengths. But when we are stretched by new situations, something deeper begins to emerge. God is interested not only in our destination but also in our transformation.
"We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope." (Romans 5:3-4)
As we step into new beginnings, we can ask not only, Lord, help me through this season, but also, Lord, what do You want to bring out of me in this season?
Whatever new beginning lies before you this autumn, remember that God goes with you. He is not only guiding your steps; He is shaping your heart.
"See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?" (Isaiah 43:19)
As we face new beginnings, let us trust God to calm our anxieties and strengthen our faith as he brings out the gifts, courage and character He has placed within us.
