What to Do When Believing God Seems Hard

Last Saturday, we at Excel Church held our 10th annual Devoted Women’s Conference. The theme was ‘Believe.’ The call to dispel with our doubts and believe again ran through the entire day. Below are some wise actions we can take when believing God seems hard.
· Be honest with God
‘Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.’ — Psalm 62:8
God invites us to bring our whole selves to Him—questions, fears, and all. Like David in the Psalms, we can speak freely to God, knowing He listens with compassion.
· Lean into community
‘Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.’ — Galatians 6:2
Faith is not a solo journey. When your belief feels fragile, let others help carry you. God often strengthens us through the encouragement and prayers of other believers.
· Return to what you know
‘Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.’ — Hebrews 13:8
When everything feels uncertain, anchor yourself in the truths that have sustained you before. God’s character doesn’t change, even when our circumstances do.
· Give yourself grace
‘A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out.’ — Isaiah 42:
Faith is a journey with ups and downs. God’s love is not dependent on your performance. Even in your weakness, God is gentle and near.
· Keep showing up
‘Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.’ — Galatians 6:9
Sometimes, the most powerful act of faith is simply not giving up. Keep praying. Keep seeking. Keep trusting—even if it’s just a whisper.
A simple prayer for faith renewal:
Lord God, in moments when my faith feels fragile and my heart feels distant, draw me near. Help me to be honest with You, to lean on others, and to remember Your unchanging love. Renew my trust in Your promises, even when I cannot see the way forward. Strengthen me to keep showing up, to keep believing, and to rest in Your grace. I believe, Lord. Help my unbelief. Amen
